Root cause analysis: We were seeing our customers connect to our core network but the return traffic from our network to never makes it to our customers' routers due to a misconfiguration at Vision Network's Kingston core equipment. We identified this by observing sessions on our side showing 0 bytes and customers reporting no connectivity at all. This is the same issue that happened back in July 2025 on the Lyneham switch and Vision Network which made it easier to identify.
Customers who were successfully connected did not have any issues but if their router disconnected and attemtped to reconnect, they did not regain connectivity and as time went on, we saw more and more customers affected.
Vision Network's senior network engineering team responded this morning and quickly fixed the suspected configuration issue and most customers regained connectivity instantly, others we had to reset their sessions but all customers are now online.
Technical: We received the DHCP REQ, we sent the DHCP OFFER but then we never received the DHCP ACK from the customer router. Customers never received the DHCP OFFER so they could not connect. We believe this was caused by a misconfiguration on Vision Network for the pop/push VLAN tags on the switching at Kingston.
We are awaiting a formal Post-Incident Review from Vision Network and will work collaboratively with Vision to ensure this does not happen on other core parts of the Vision Network in the ACT.
